Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are your fees?

    • Standard 50min sessions are ¥12,000 and 80min sessions are ¥18,000. Individual therapy, child therapy, and parenting sessions typically use the 50 min session. The 80min session is recommended for couple's counseling.

  • Do you take insurance?

    • We do not take Japanese National Health Insurance. If you would like to file a claim with your private insurance, we can provide a paid invoice form that you can use for your claim. Please note, we cannot guarantee that your insurance will reimburse you for any fees so please check with your insurance company if services would be covered.

  • Do you provide in-person sessions?

    • We currently do not provide in-person sessions, but plan to in the near future. Please check back on our website for updates or feel free to contact us if you would like to be notified when in-person services becomes available.

  • What are your credentials?

  • What can I expect from my first appointment?

    • The first appointment is an intake session which will primarily focus on collecting information such as symptoms, stressors, mental health history, relevant family history, etc. It is important to get a full picture of your symptoms and mental health so that your therapist can establish an effective treatment plan. If you do not feel comfortable providing certain information at this time, please let your therapist know.

  • How long does therapy last?

    • How long therapy lasts can vary depending on various factors, including severity of symptoms, stressors, environmental factors, client goals, etc. Generally, the more complex the situation is or more severe the symptoms are, the longer therapy takes to reach the treatment goals.

  • How often are sessions?

    • Sessions can be as frequent or infrequent as you would like them to be depending on the therapist's availability. Most client's prefer to meet weekly or bi-weekly. If your current symptoms are severe, it is recommended to have more frequent sessions.

  • What if I don't feel like therapy is working?

    • If you feel like progress is slow or you're not getting much out of your sessions, please let the therapist know. The therapist may be able to make adjustments to improve your experience or you could be referred out to another therapist who may be a better fit.

  • How do I know if a therapist is the right one for me?

    • Finding a therapist you can trust and feel safe with is one of the most important factors in determining how successful therapy will be. Please ask about having a free 15 minute consultation session to see if your therapist would be a good fit for you.

  • Do you provide therapy in Japanese?

    • Therapy services are all conducted in English.

  • What should I do if I am not able to attend my session?

    • Please email the therapist as soon as possible to cancel the session. There is a 24hr cancellation policy so if you are not able to cancel or reschedule the session within 24hrs of the scheduled time, you would still be responsible for the session fee. If you are able to meet later on the same day, the therapist may be able to reschedule you without cancelling the session.

  • Do you provide psychological assessments?

    • We currently do not provide any psychological assessments.

  • Can you give a diagnosis?

    • The therapist may note a possible diagnosis for the purpose of developing a treatment plan, but the therapist cannot provide a formal written diagnosis.

  • Can you prescribe medication?

    • The therapist cannot prescribe any medication. Please see your medical doctor or a psychiatrist for medication.

  • I am in crisis and need immediate emergency support. Can I receive same day services?

    • Unfortunately, we are not equipped to provide adequate crisis services, such as 24hr or same day services. All sessions must be scheduled at least a day in advance. If you are currently in need of emergency support that involves the safety of yourself or another person, please use the following resources:
